Monopoly Mayhem

What do I see?

I see myself in a monopoly match like no other.

When I was about eleven years old I used to play monopoly with my nephew. Though it was more like a brother to me. Our game use to last for hours, and always end with me owing the bank money.

A roll of the dice, and if our throw wasn’t to our liking we would add one number to avoid paying for the hotels on that space. I always ended up owing the bank money. Nothing much changes – there is less money than the bills I need to pay.

We would spend the rest of the time talking about how cheating was wrong, and that we wouldn’t do it again. Until next time. I’m not sure whether we meant our promise at the time, or were both just saying the words.

I still love playing monopoly, although my daughter’s partner always ends up winning and I still end up owing the bank. Even when we play The Game of Life, he wins that too.

It seem to me like the monopoly men see no cheating, hear not cheating, and do not speak of the cheating. The dice just slipped from a two to a three that’s all. You only did that to avoid Mayfair with a hotel on it.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. Happy memories. I have four siblings and we could play Monopoly for days on end. I was usually pretty good. Unlike real life, where I usually don’t have a Cluedo!
