A Writer’s #Brain

There are some days when a writer’s brain can release all their expertise with a single stroke of the pen. Ideas, however jumbled, are written, or typed on the page. We understand that it might not be our best work, but we can go back to it later. Improve what we’ve written.

However, there are some days where nothing we write is good enough. We type, or write one sentence. Delete it, scrub it out and wait for some inspiration to strike. Nothing happens, apart from us feeling annoyed at our brain for not thinking of that ideal sentence.

Maybe I’ve just taken on more than I can chew. How difficult can it be describing the world of a visually impaired journalist? I must have spent half an hour staring at the computer screen for ideas about her imaginary job as a blogger at a newspaper.

Back to my research I think. It didn’t help that I’ve changed it from third to first person, and have changed her job completely. Everything I’ve written so far is going to be rewritten.

Maybe tomorrow will help get things back into perspective. I am part of a team of amateur writers and directors. Tomorrow we are looking at the plays we’ve written and how to get them ready for another round of filming. Lots of rewrites, and tearing my hair out, but I’m looking forward to it all the same.

I might not have to go to the hairdresser though, so at least I’ll save some money.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. That’s the good thing about WP. If I write something, and even I think it’s crap, I can scrunch it up and it never existed. Bit harder when you have committments to other people. I like being an amateur.
