I love giving gifts, and always spend a lot of time thinking of the perfect gift for my family. My daughter is great for this as well. She will see something and think that is perfect for such and such. It can be a simple gift, which doesn’t cost very much. In fact my favourite gifts are those that don’t cost a lot of money.
A few years ago, my sister-in-law made us all stockings and every year since we fill these stockings with cheap, cheerful and funny gifts. Mine tend to be filled with bath bombs, and chocolate. My daughter has mainly crafty bits, and chocolate. I think they were originally filled with a mug, with a smiley face on, sweets, and hot chocolate.
When I get gifts for my brother and sister, they tend to be quite jokey. We don’t really need anything new. One year I wrote a poem for them both – I didn’t have a lot of money that year. The frame cost me a pound, and the words I wrote were free.
I remember all the gifts I got as a child, but I was never much good at waiting. I woke my brother up at 3am once to tell him it was Christmas. I don’t think he was too impressed, as he had only got home at 2am. After that some presents were put at the end of my bed in a pillow case.
It didn’t quite stop me from waking everyone up, but at least they got an extra hour’s sleep.
