In past years the humble table has been the heart of the family home. Television programmes set the most important decisions around it. My memories are pretty much the same.
Family parties, where there was always a spread of a variety of food on display. Christmas dinners where we laughed at ancient jokes in the crackers, and supplied more vegetables than we had seen in a year.
Normally I’m not the greatest fan of vegetables, but I will entertain them at Christmas, but there is one I will not eat. Sprouts. There is a reason we only see them once a year. To be fair I’m not a great fan of most of the food at Christmas. I don’t like mince pies, fruit cake or Christmas pudding.
I love sitting around the table, talking. Spending time with family, friends, laughing at the same old jokes. It is the best time of the year for me because we take time out of busy lives to spend with each other.
We might play a board game, talk, or just eat too much chocolate, but it gives me a sense of home.
The most important bit of Christmas is those gatherings. Lovely post.
