For First Line Friday Prompt

The horns of the hunt echoed across the snow.

Paws padded across as he tried not to think of the shocking noise behind him. It wouldn’t be long before they caught up, and he would never see his family ever again. They had warned him not to go out today, but his youth thought it knew better.

Just as all hope was lost, a little girl stood in front of him. In a yellow coat, and wellington boots to match, she pointed to the inlet in the oak trees. Mist covered the entrance in a soft glow.

He took his chance, and with her coat covering the entrance nobody would know different. The hounds would sniff, but she would protect him. Only when the hoard passed by, did the fox venture out.

At least one human had humanity.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
