The Gift of Flight

This year for Christmas I asked for a tandem parachute jump. I’ve always wanted to do it, and there wasn’t anything else I really wanted. When my grown up children found out the price, (£300) they said it was too expensive. I wouldn’t have wanted them to spend that much on me.

Instead, I got the next best thing. I am still going on a parachute jump but virtually. I don’t know how it works exactly, but you are inside, and floating on air, with a virtual headset on.

To your mind, you are on a parachute jump because of the headset. I have booked it and on February 26th next year I will be going with my husband. This is the greatest present ever.

I get to do something I’ve wanted to experience in years, but in a safe way, without jumping out of an actual plane. It links really well with my new VR360 play, which will be shown to the public in February as well. I know how real these headsets can feel, especially when I was watching another writer’s play and wanted to sit down because I felt like I was standing on top of a building. With this flying experience, I won’t have a chair to sit in, but I will feel like I’m actually flying.

Cool.

What gifts have you received this year?

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
