Untapped Ability

Reena has set a prompt with these words –

“I have untapped abilities waiting to be discovered.”

I don’t know what my untapped abilities are to be honest.

I have always wanted to write, and even a a child I preferred to be writing or reading. Although, I always thought I would write novels, but since moving three years ago, I have expanded my network.

Joining a writing group, I met a group of like minded people. It was two of those writers, who wrote plays for our local entertainment centre. It was something I had never done – write plays, but I wanted to at least try.

My first monologue never did get shown because COVID hit, but I was proud of the result all the same. It was my first time writing in the view point of a man with PTSD. My next play, written during COVID, was originally going to work as a zoom, but again, it never really happened.

Third time lucky, and my play (on VR360 headset) was shown to an audience. It has also been shown in venues around my local town. I loved being part of a team of writers – from the idea, right through to the performance. Being paid was definitely a bonus.

I have another idea, and this time, it should be shown to an audience as a play performed on stage. It all takes time, but my idea of a mother, daughter interaction, where one of them as Alzheimer’s is beginning to take shape.

Maybe I do have some more untapped abilities, but I just have to give myself a chance to sparkle.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. All the best with your latest creative project! With your involvement as a playwright in bringing your work to an audience, you may discover even more untapped abilities in theatrical productions. Happy Mother’s Day!
