Review – Into the Crooked Place

I came across this book in my local Tesco.

They have a scheme where you can put money towards a charity and give pre-read books new readership. It isn’t my normal genre, but the book cover intrigued me. ”The realms make monsters of us all” was the sub title.

I wasn’t disappointed with my choice.

Alexandra Christo is the author of ”Into The Crooked Place”. It is a multi- character book and follows the lives of Tavia (sells dark potions until she is old enough to buy her freedom) She dreams of leaving her old world behind. Wesley (wanting power and dreams of being the ”Kingpin”) Karam (A fighter in the fighting rings, not unused to causing pain) Saxony (plotting revenge on those who killed her family) These four, unlikely comrades join together in one big enemy ”The Kingpin”. He wants to flood the streets with dark magic, threatening to take away the freedom of those who live in an uncertain world.

Every one of the characters has a three dimensional feel to them. They each have something they have lost, and something to lose. The create an unlikely alliance, and fight their own demons (in ghostly form) in a bid to stop the world from being flooded with dark magic.

What they find when they reach the Kingpin is an unexpected twist, and will undoubtedly lead to another book in the series. I for one want to read this book for some of the unanswered questions I now have.

I won’t reveal too much, but there are some unexpected surprises.

I really enjoyed reading this book, and I forgot I was in a magical world, where nothing could be real. The brilliantly developed characters intertwined with each other, as they learnt something new about each other. As each character became the narrator it was seamless.

It is an easy 5/5 stars and I would highly recommend anyone to read this book.
