Holiday Fun

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?

Fandango’s question today is about our best vacation, or holiday to us Brits.

My best holiday as a child would have to be the holidays, I had in a place called Margate in Kent. A seaside town it was well known for its theme park, Dreamland, and its entertainment centre, The Winter Gardens.

In Dreamland they had events (wrestling, ice-skating, dolphin shows) plus the roller coaster rides. The very first one I went on was the big dipper, with my dad. I was scared, but also knew I would be safe because Dad was with me. When we went on the beach, Mum would always find an excuse to go to bingo, while I stayed on the beach with Dad. Then I would get either a strawberry milkshake, or Horlicks of an evening as a treat.

As an adult, on family holidays, my best holiday is between one at Cornwall, where we stayed in a tent. So much happened that year – cider tasting, going to the farm, the zoo, lots of beach fun, and the company was great. My daughter was about three at the time. Isle of White is another – It’s so relaxing there, and no matter where we went it felt like a proper holiday. The beach, finding friends, and just having a good laugh made it special.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
