Land of the Living

This week from https://lifeafter50forwomen.com/author/sadje19/

Watching, through the empty doorway, on Halloween, it was the only day she could walk with the living. Her ancestors, from the day she died, and she protected them. When they prayed, she listened. Did her best to let them know it wasn’t a bad place you went to.

Your version of heaven didn’t always correspond with another person.

Some wanted to be with family; couldn’t leave them; not until they were settled. Charlotte was one of those, who chose to stay. This was her last chance to speak to her daughter before she got married.

The only chance to say goodbye.

She walked through the arch, and her skin glowed pink, her one prayer was answered. One more day. The sun shone as she passed the point of returning home. It was the price to pay for love.

‘Hello, can I help you?’ A young woman, who remembered nothing of her mum, smiled at the stranger.

‘I’m a friend of your dad’s,’ she said, not sure of what else to say.

‘Did you know my mum too?’ she asked.

‘Yes, and she would have thought you are beautiful. But why are you out here, on your own.’

‘I never knew my mum, and I guess I was a little nervous . . .’

‘Your mum would have liked him, and wherever she is, knows you are going to be happy.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
