Don’t Ever Forget

Alice had been here before; a bottle that said, ‘drink me.’ A cake that said, ‘eat me.’

Now, this gift, underneath the Christmas tree, took her back to a time of Cheshire cats, and the Queen, getting her servants to paint white roses red. Growing up was strange, not a child any more, she rarely believed in magic.

Her child, Toby, handed her the box.

Five years old, the handwriting was his generous scrawl.

‘Happy Christmas Mummy,’ he said.

Opening it, one layer at a time- it ranged from blue, to pink, to white. Finally, inside was a small box, inside that was a necklace. On the back eat me, on the front a picture of her best friend, The Mad Hatter.

‘So you won’t ever forget,’ Toby said.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
