Sleep – Book Review

In my local Tesco, there is a part at the front, where a charity sells second hand books. I found Sleep, by C L Taylor, and the title caught my attention. It didn’t disappoint me.

At the beginning of the book Anna gives a list of names, responsible for stalking her. Guests at the hotel, where she is working, out to kill her. Using Macbeth they leave a series of quotes to push the blame where it doesn’t belong.

She was driving her colleagues home on an winter night when she was involved in a head on collision with a lorry. Mohammed, who cannot walk because of the crash, is visited by several people. He blames Anna, even though the driver of the lorry was a fault from the start.

A variety of visitors, lots of clues to take us away from the killer, and the five names she lists are guests at the hotel. Joe Armstrong, Christina Cuttle, Fiona Gardiner, Trevor Morgan, Malcom Ward, Melanie Ward, and Katie Ward. Each of them have a secret, reasons why they cannot sleep.

Anna is left notes using Shakespeare quotes from Macbeth ”Someone has stolen sleep”. She is sure they want her to sleep permanently because they blame her. as much as she blames herself.

When another friend is killed, she is left alone with seven people, who are a threat, not only to her life, but the blame she still feels. Every guest blames themselves for something, but only one person wants to push her into a decision to end her life.

I loved this book, not only because all the characters are well rounded. I was left guessing to who wanted her to ”Sleep”. It wasn’t until the end of the book, I found out who her tormentor was. Even at the end, there was a stunning twist to this book.

I would highly recommend this five out of five stars story.
