Holidays

My post’s inspiration thttps://pensitivity101.wordpress.com/2023/02/06/share-your-world-6th-february/

1. What kind of vacations did you have as a child? I used to go on holiday with my parents to a seaside town called Margate. There was a theme park (sadly gone) and an entertainment centre. I saw famous celebrities of the eighties. Charlie Drake, Lulu, Rod Hull and Emu. We watched wrestling, saw a dolphin show, and I went on my first roller coaster with my dad. We spent days on the beach, while Mum played bingo. There were arcades, which included prize bingo. I have fond memories of spending time with Mum and Dad, and staying at a guest house (bed, breakfast and evening meal).

2. Have any of those remained favourites now that you’re an adult? I went to Margate as an adult. There was one guest house, where us regulars, went every year. The last time we went was when my daughter was two. We have have been to Pontins, and Haven. In May, we are going on holiday in Yorkshire. A family holiday with my daughter, husband, son, grandson and granddaughter.

3. What has been your best vacation ever? I love the Isle of White, it is a slower pace of life there. The countryside is beautiful, and there are so many places to visit. It is where my daughter met one of her best friends. We’ve laughed, (especially after a drunken dip in the pond by my brother-in-law) The jokes, trips, and family, and the seaside. I can’t think of anywhere else I would love to go.

4. Do you prefer resorts where there are no kids allowed? I always have my children around me, alongside dogs, my grandchildren, and husband.

Gratitude:
My beautiful, amazing grown up kids.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. Thanks for sharing your world this week Diana. The first holiday I can remember as a kid was in a caravan in West Bay near Bridport. It belonged to a friend of my father’s and it was damp, musty, and leaked. There was no bathroom in it so in the middle of the night it was either the bucket or getting dressed to go to the toilet block. It rained almost every day, but my parents tried to make the best of it. After that, it was camping, and we had lots of fun in Scotland pitching in fields rather than camp sites. I woke up one morning to see a cow sticking her head inside the tent flap. It was a very pretty cow!

    1. I remember a holiday like that, we stayed in a small caravan, where the bunk bed was pulled out. It was the most uncomfortable bed, although there was lots of laughter too. I never went camping as a child, but once as an adult, but the tents were pre pitched. That holiday, with attacking geese (my two year old daughter) and a tasting cider place will forever remain in my memory.
