Nervous

”Nervous? You shouldn’t be.”

Sally’s husband passed her some toast, which she moved away. Food was the last thing she wanted right now. This night was important to her, but she wasn’t sure how capable of finding a job at her age.

”This is my first interview in years. What if they don’t like me.”

”If anything you are overqualified, don’t worry you’ve got this. I know just the thing.’ he brings out my favourite chocolates. The orange centred ones. He passes me over one of them, and for the first time that morning I smile.

”You’ve got this,’ he says, giving me a kiss on the lips.

Taking a bite out of the chocolate, I finish it in seconds. Confident for the first time that morning, I walk out the door.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
