More Confident

1. If you could reinvent yourself, how would you like to be? I like who I am; mostly. Although I would love to be more confident. Even when I am around family, I find saying the right things difficult. I look at my daughter, who is so confident in what she says, and I am so proud. Even my son, who is autistic, will speak to others with more confidence than I do. I think part of it is being bullied, and I just don’t think I have anything important to say.
2. Would you like to be a pet in your household? Oh yea, food twice a day, exercising, and lots of fuss. What’s not to love?
3. How many house moves have you had as an adult? I have lived in six houses since I got married. The first was a new build with two small bedrooms. The second move was to an area, that could have been nicer. Although, we had great neighbours (apart from the house opposite). One, an elderly couple, who would talk with me, my husband and my kids. They always said mine were polite and the only children allowed to do trick or treating. A young couple, who would mow my lawn when I forgot, and fed my cat ”Chelsea” when they had a barbecue. They also put a blanket on a bench, so she could sleep in comfort. My last home, is further away from family that I would like. It was the only way I could be near my daughter, and have the comfort of owning my own home, without a mortgage.
4. What was your favourite home? It has to be my childhood home. There are so many memories there. From the day I brought home some blue flowers in a plastic cup, for them to invade the whole garden. To a little boat shaped hole in the back garden, a swing, my rabbit ”Snowy”. Next door had a beautiful rose bush, which gave my dad comfort when he was ill. It was a long garden, where my cat scared next door’s Alsatian. He barked at her, and she raised her heckles and hissed. He ran all the way inside. My dad, sitting in his red chair, and listening to his stories. My mum making my favourite stew. Watching ”Starsky and Hutch” and ”Charlie Chan, Miss Marple, and Sherlock Holmes”.

I am grateful of never being homeless, and always having a roof where I felt safe. My parents, and extended family, and always feeling loved. I am so lucky, to have such great memories of my childhood home. There has never been a time where I have worried to lose my home.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
