Anger

Alison spent all her childhood keeping her anger inside of her.

When the bullies called her names, or laughed as they walked by, or pushed her in the mud Alison just took it. Perhaps it was something she said? She was never sure what.

Now, the same thing was being done to her child, and her anger couldn’t stay in – an appointment booked to see the headmistress, and she could only see her next week. It wasn’t good enough, her child deserved better.

‘What do I do Mummy, if they call me names?’ Stella said.

‘It isn’t your fault, none of this is. Sometimes they call you names because they want to see you cry. The best way to beat the bully is to ignore them. Don’t get upset, or angry.’

‘But I am upset, and angry.’

‘Then we will book you in for boxing lessons, it will get all your anger out, at the right thing. Without hurting anyone. I get how you feel, and I will speak to the headmistress.’

‘She won’t do anything.’

‘Perhaps not, but at least we have told someone, and it isn’t a secret any more. What can hurt your bully, is to make good of your life. Don’t let them stop you learning. Join some clubs, make friends that way. Perhaps you will make some friends at the boxing club.’

‘I would prefer the Animae club, I love drawing, plus I’m going to write a comic one day, become rich. I don’t mind boxing, but why don’t you come too.’

‘Why not, and we could always go for pizza and ice-cream afterwards.’

She hugged her daughter, a proud Mum, but also proud of herself. If only she hadn’t of kept her bullying a secret. Her dad, an amazing man, with a huge heart, saved her life.

She would always be thankful.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
