Mountain

Confucius wrote, “The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”

We all have to start with small stones.

Any great novel, or piece of writing starts with one word, or even a random thought inside your head. My first book wasn’t the best it could have been. I have learnt a lot since writing it. My first mistake was paying for the book to be published, with second rate editing.

Now, if I am going to pay, it will be for a decent editor.

Our first draft will always be rubbish, no matter who is writing. It is our job to pile up the stones so they resemble a mountain worthy of climbing. I don’t think we are ever happy with our stories, but that’s why good reviews make a writer smile. Someone has climbed our mountain, and wants to stay there.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
