Covid?

Written in response to https://pensitivity101.wordpress.com/2023/08/15/truthful-tuesday-15th-august/

With a new variant of Covid making its presence felt, if you would offered the latest vaccine, would you have it?

The answer is yes, I would have the vaccine.

When I was young my niece was in any oxygen tent. She was eighteen months old and had whooping cough. She nearly died. With the vaccine she would have been okay. I am old enough to remember things like measles, which could cause blindness. There was also mumps and German measles. The latter dangerous for pregnant women. My mum had TB as a young woman, having to go into hospital for four years. Again we nearly lost her, and my sister was cared by her Nan for that amount of time because she couldn’t see her own daughter.

Both my children had the MMR jab, as I wanted to keep them safe. My son is autistic, and there are many theories that it causes Autism. However, as I think my husband is autistic, and possibly myself. (there are many signs) I believe it is hereditary. What could have been seen as quirky in the past, can be explained with this condition in mind.

If they offered the vaccine I would accept it. I don’t think they will, more so because lock down was something that cost the country and world a lot of money. It would have to be at 2020 levels before they did that again. Even then, the decision for the politicians would be a difficult one.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  2. I remember Mum putting heavy blankets at the bedroom windows when we had measles.
The MMR jab wasn’t available when I was a child, but I didn’t have the BCG vaccination for TB, though I don’t remember why.
We’ve had all our boosters so far, flu jabs and pneumonia too. We may be offered the latest as we are both 67 and have underlying health issues. If so, we will have it.
Thanks for joining in. Your reply shows how far medicine has come over the years, and reminds our generation of how things were.

    1. I think if you have lived through measles and diseases like that, we know how dangerous they are. My brother wore glasses from an early age because of measles. We get the flu jabs free. My husband also gets the pneumonia jab.
