Dahlia

Being surrounded by Dahlia’s was always the best part of Sophie’s day. Work seemed to be getting more difficult to navigate. Like a minefield, there was always something, which could turn her day upside down.

Here, sat in her deckchair, she could forget her stresses. This lavender coloured flower was something she was proud of. She remembered planting the little packet of seeds earlier in the spring. At first she wasn’t sure it would grow, but with a little help of fertiliser, and a whole lot of love, it was the strongest plant in her garden.

Every Summer, it would rise from its slumber and each Autumn, it would shed its colourful petals. She knew it would be there, through the coldest of winters. It would protect her with an aroma called home.

The winter nights drew in, and when she wasn’t able to sit in her garden, she was able to nurture a Poinsettia. It was something she could focus on, during the cold season until she opened her back door ready to her precious plants to grow tall.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
