Optimism, is a half glass full type of thing, that’s what Terry used to think. No matter what happened in her life, she attempted to see the positive. If she were working long hours at work, it was more time to spend with colleagues. If the car broke down, she would lose weight with all the walking. Although, there were times, when her true thoughts were shown.
Only when she was alone.
She used to love the responsibility, but now she was getting older, it was getting more difficult to make time for herself. No, she needed to practice that word more often.
‘Hi, Terry, you alright for some overtime tonight,’ her manager, Tom said.
She looked at her workload, took a deep breath and wondered if she could get away with it this time.
Her friend, Steve glanced at her furrowed brow, and moved in her behalf. ‘Sorry, but Terry is going with me to see my mum tonight. She has a doctors appointment, and I haven’t got a car.’
‘Yes . . . Steve is right . . . I totally forgot. Sorry, it has to be a no . . .’ She crossed everything she could hold. A snake of sweat trickled down her back, as she moved away from her boss.
‘No worries, I’ll ask Alan, hope your mum is okay.’
As her boss walked away, she stared at Steve. She couldn’t remember offering to take his mum. Although, she was getting a little forgetful lately. ‘When does your mum want picking up?’
‘Not at all, although we could get a bite to eat at the pub. You’ve been working too much lately. It will do you good,’ Steve said.
‘Thanks Steve, I owe you one. Next time he asks, I’ll come up with the excuse,’ she said, with a big grin. A meal sounded brilliant.
‘
‘
Steve got her out of a jam!
