Scamp rushed towards the waves, salt water saturated in his golden fur. Excited yelps followed before he ran back on the sumptuous sand. It was the best part of the seaside. That and spending time with his most loved people in the whole world.
He searched the shore for his family. They were safe – time for another go on his roller coaster ride into the sea. When he was a pup, the waves scared him. It was like they were a clowder of cats rushing him in the dark.
A myriad of trips into the ocean and he needed a bit of a rest. Besides, it was time to protect the youngsters. Sometimes James wandered off, but today he was busy with his sandcastles. His ears turned around like radar, Scamp observed the horizon. Where was she? There was only her big yellow ring bobbing on the waves. His fur was only just dry and he didn’t want to go swimming again. A gulp of air, and she burst through the hole of her big yellow ring. How could she stay in so long? It was freezing in there.
What was that? His mum brought his favourite thing for lunch. Drool dripped from his lips as he barked out his request. Please, can I have some? She gripped the rind while he nibbled on the other end of the water melon. Gone in seconds, he looked to the bag. Just one more, please? Seconds firmly in his stomach, Scamp was ready to protect and serve.
Right behind them, he watches the seagull getting a little too close to his family. He barked loudly; that’s it feathers flap your wings mate. He lunged forward and pushed the seagull back into the air.
As the vibrant smile of the sun melted into the shimmering sea, a symphony of waves whispered around his ears. The salt lingered in the air as they diligently gathered their discarded remnants. They carefully stowed them away in their bags, destined for disposal.
A clean coast and we left our patch of the beach exactly the same.
Lovely day had by all.

I have never seen a dog eat water melon, but I just read that they love it.

My dog Titan loves the stuff. I take it out of the fridge and he starts drooling.

Diana, If there’s a bird’s eye view, you’ve proved there can be a dog’s eye view too! 🐶

Amazing
Wow, what a beautiful and heartwarming story! I loved reading about Scamp’s adventures at the seaside with his family. The vivid descriptions really brought the scene to life. I was wondering, are there any special memories or experiences at the seaside that inspired this story?

My dog Scamp, who died a few years ago. He would sit behind us. He was a mongrel, but mostly German Shepherd. Small for his breed he looked like a pup. My current dog is the one who runs into the waves, he is part Rottweiler and part German Shepherd. He is much bigger.
