National Women’s Day

Women that have influenced me in my life.

Mum could be a force to be reckoned with. She always wanted the best for me. There were times when we didn’t get along, but I am more like her, than I care to admit. I miss going to her house and talking the Sunday away.

My sister was sixteen years older than me. Strong, beautiful and brave. I wish she were still here, so that I could say how much she inspired me and how much I love her.

Growing up, my aunties all encouraged me in different ways. I never knew my grandmothers. Dad’s mum brought up most of her children alone, while working full time jobs. On the maternal side, she was the powerhouse of the family. Even holding a card school in her home.

Four nieces, and one honorary niece – they are all amazing; mothers, teachers, nurse, a nail technician,(tattoos and many other talents). They have fought their own battles and grown stronger.

Numerous great-nieces; all brilliant.

A daughter with a big heart, and momma bear to all her friends. She is a fierce protector. A great mum to a determined daughter. A little girl, with her own mind. I hope to inspire her, as my own family did with me.

I am so proud of all the women in my family.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
