It was a tonic to see her granddaughter.

When there was a tough week at work, and it felt like she was crashing into a brick wall, seeing that grin was catching. Even something as simple as baking could outshine all the stress.

‘What do you want to do today?’ she asked.

‘Can we make pancakes for dinner?’

‘Course we can, with strawberries and maple syrup; ask granddad if he wants some.’
