Bedsheets

The patchwork quilt served as a protective layer for the sheets, preserving its memories of a different time. Crocheted squares, each like a field of crops, connected into a woollen cover. Sarah remembered her aunty. Her dad’s sister, with clever stitches, always gave a sense of wonder.

Yellow, red, blue hues beautiful against her cotton bedsheets. Nestled beneath the covers, she dared the winter chill to vacation somewhere else. Snow shuffled down the window, a quiet lull to its journey melted by the warmth.

Sleeping alone had its benefits.

No snoring, and a sea of space.

Bliss.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
