Eldest

1.  Is there a particular song that makes you cry or become emotional? I am not sure who sang it, but there is an Irish ballad, which is about a son coming home and his dad, who died before he could say goodbye. I remember it at Dad’s funeral. When my sister passed, three years ago, the film ‘‘Encanto’’ was full of great songs. My granddaughter watched it on her I pad. ‘‘Growing Pressure’’, a song by the eldest girl to the youngest, about taking on too much. I cannot listen to them without crying.
2.  Is there a particular song you cannot stand? I don’t like techno, where the only sound is a beat.
3.  Does any particular song remind you of someone? ‘‘Sweet Caroline’’ by Neil Diamond. It was my sister’s pop idol and also her name. Another song, I cannot listen to, without being in tears.
4.  Do you have a favourite song? I will Survive, by Gloria Gaynor. I found the courage to face my fears when I was bullied as a child because every time I was scared I would join in with the lyrics.

I am grateful, for my dad, he helped me through a traumatic event, when I was a teenager. His strength showed me there was hope I would get better. He taught me not to be ashamed by crying; it is our true strength.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
