- If you were a colour, what would you choose to be? Blue, because it is the colour of the sea, it makes me calm.
- What one piece of advice would you give your younger self? Tell someone you are being bullied. As a child, I was constantly picked on, by two boys. They would follow me home from school calling me names. I was always afraid to tell a teacher or my parents. I thought it would get worse. I know now, that if I told a trusted adult (my Dad) he would have done something about it.
- What was the best piece of advice you were ever given? I would rather be your friend. One of the boys who picked on me, started work at the same place I did. This four foot nine woman, with a temper to match, finally called him out on his bullying. He lost his job a few days afterwards. For the first time I had a sense of myself, I never saw before.
- If you needed advice on a matter, who would you ask (friend, family, professional etc). When my dad was alive, I would speak to him. He never judged me when I was diagnosed with depression as a teenager. He made me feel like I could do anything and overcome the trauma caused by the bullying. Now, I would talk to my brother, daughter and son. I trust their judgement, and they would never steer me wrong. I also have my best friend, who I met at secondary school. We don’t see each other every day, but I know if I called her, she would give great advice.
I am grateful for my bestie; when I met her, at the age of eleven, our friendship is strong. She moved to America when she was fifteen, but best friends do not have to see each other every day. When I retire, I hope to make the journey across the water to see visit her and her family.
Thanks for joining in and sharing your world Diana. Bullying was suffered in silence all those years ago. I had few friends, kept myself to myself and spent a lot of my free time in the library. One particular member of PE staff picked on me for years so I kept out of her way as well. Like you, I could talk to my Dad. How I miss him.

I understand, the library was always a safe space for me, where I didn’t have to face them. I miss my dad, and would love just one more day with him.
