Sentenced – Book Review

M. J. Whelan’s brilliant book titled “Sentenced” is about Liz. She finds out she is a grandmother and asked to take guardianship of her granddaughter Freya. The police arrest her son, Ellis, for threatening behaviour, and the mother for neglect, she cannot say no. Freya would go into the foster care system if she failed to take on her three-year-old granddaughter.

Social services can call any time, and there are strict rules attached. With sleepless nights, and a toddler with a traumatic past, she has no choice but to cope.

In addition, Liz works as a prison officer. Her wellness classes show us that prisoners are people too. She treats them with respect. In return, they share a respect for a woman, who helps them through their traumatic past.

I would highly recommend reading this amazing novel.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
