Butterfly Garden

Sarah’s daddy was the cleverest person she knew.

When she asked for a planter to grow her flowers, she didn’t expect it to be built in a few weeks.

His smile spread, shifting into summer, as she noticed buds growing from the soil. A rainbow of colour rebounded inside as she opened the door. Inside her teddy rested in the corner. Butterflies adorned the wooden frame.

‘You can plant whatever you like.’

‘Mummy liked bluebells. Can I plant them?’

‘Yes, she would love that. In a few months this will be the prettiest garden, full of butterflies. They are the best, because they are a message from heaven.’ He smiled, as she picked up a small fork, and planted the first seeds.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
