Hopeful Arrow

Blowing the candle out, she said The Lord’s Prayer.

There were days when Sheila’s faith system faltered. As a child, going to Sunday school it the texts were taught. Reading the bible, and learning texts, were normal. Now, the only time she frequented church was at weddings and funerals. Our Father recited; each word, a hopeful arrow shot into the unknown force that was God.

That was true of most evenings before she fell asleep.

Remembering family, friends and beloved pets was a way to keep them close. She never forgot them. The value of living her life an achievement they never got. In each action, their advice forcing doubts out of her mind.

Mistakes happen-it’s how we deal with them that counts the most.

The one constant she could cope with was her conviction in angels. A butterfly settling on a branch. A brave Robin, lingering on the pavement. White feathers drifting from an empty sky. Aromas, some sweet, sour, or a mixture, lingered in each corner, ready to protect those left behind.

All signs they existed and she was not alone.

  1. Diana,

The blend of personal reflections, faith, and the comforting symbolism of angels in your piece creates a poignant narrative. The portrayal of faith evolving over time, interwoven with memories and signs, adds depth to the emotional resonance of the writing. Gorgeous!

    Much love,

    David
