A haze of pink washed across the morning, its hope pushing through the fear. The rising of the sun, each ray reaching towards a new chance. Sprinkles of light sending a positive message. Beth didn’t know what the new year would bring, but they were together.

‘You okay?’

‘Yea, I reckon I am.’

A long year, but his surprise at an early breakfast of pancakes and honey, a brilliant start to the day. She leaned into his arms, linking her fingers with his. She took a deep breath, her gaze lifted, her thoughts clear.

‘Thank you.’

‘For what?’

‘For the best made pancakes I have ever tasted, and … for loving me enough, not to quit on me.’

‘No problem,’ he kissed wet, warm cheeks.

‘Love you.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
