‘Is there anything you would like to ask me?’
‘Will there be a trial period?’
‘Normally three months, and after that, if everything is satisfactory, we will continue the contract as a permanent.’
‘You said the position was part-time – What are the hours?’
‘Nine till one, with a fifteen-minute break in between.’
‘When will you let me know if I have got the position?’
‘Laura, with your qualifications and the experience working in a similar situation will be more than sufficient for me to offer you the job now.’
‘Really?’
‘I feel you will be a perfect fit .’
She couldn’t stop the grin on her face from spreading. ‘Thank you so much. Wow I didn’t think you would offer me the job.’
‘It’s because you were honest Laura, that’s something we value in an employee.’
She wanted to ring her mum but chose to send a text instead. That way, just like Martin did with her, she would let her mum come to her own decision, without forcing the outcome. Laura knew the text would be deleted but that wouldn’t have stopped the words being read.
