Needless to say, I couldn’t stop smiling.
My whole family in one room again – My father alive, and I had memories of him. Memories of Harry. Nothing had been taken from me, and we were together.
‘You’ve been asleep quite a while,’ Dad said.
I flung my arms around him and my arms wrapped around his shoulders like a petal around a bud. Recollections were one thing, but seeing him here. So much like Harry, yet different.
‘You alright petal?’
‘I’m fine, but where am I?’ I ask, sitting up.
‘On our ship ”The Blue Lagoon”. We were just about to dock into port. Harry was so worried you would miss his wedding.’
‘Harry is getting married . . .’ It isn’t a question.
I caught influenza, I remember now. It started off as a sniffle, but now I am okay. Maybe I dreamt about my adventures. Today was a great day for me too. Straight after the wedding I was to embark on my own journey.
Today I was going to captain the ship, and no longer be a pirate in training. Although, pirate wasn’t quite the right word. After we had sailed into the mist, the past had settled into calm seas.
It was a different life now; for all of us.
Harry was a merchant, sailing to distant lands, in search of new species of animals. Mother used her gifts to help people with their past and distant future. Me. I stood beside my father on his ship, learning his craft.
He was pirate in name only, and it was his wandering heart that caused him to stay attached to the sea. We searched for treasure, but never crossed another’s path. It was as though the purple mist had forgiven him all his sins.
The saying ”Never judge a book by its cover” was true. Pirates had a bad name, but once you get to know them, they only want the same for their families. Prosperity and security.
I wasn’t sure where I was going on my ship that day, or what I was going to do, but I was going on my own adventure. Dad was finally settling down with Mum, in the cottage by the sea, they always dreamed of.
I was on my own, but I was ready for my next adventure.
