From Weekend Writing Prompt

Brushl

Her mum brushed Stacey’s hair as she couldn’t look away from her reflection. Long hair was transformed into two plaits. This was the right time to talk. Reveal what had been happening at school.

‘Mum,’ she said, as the blue ribbon reflected the mood within.

‘What is it honey?’

It was time to reveal the truth, but still she was scared. Scared of reprisals. One last look in the mirror. It couldn’t go on like this.

‘Mum . . . I’m being bullied,’ she said, the words finally finding peace.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
