‘What’s that letter?’ Mrs Clause asked, over her breakfast hot chocolate.
‘I’ve been caught speeding, I was doing a thousand miles an hour in a twenty mile an hour zone.’
‘Again, I thought I told you to avoid the cameras.’
Santa Clause felt bad, but nobody was awake at that time of night, and little Tommy was so excited to get his present. It was unusual too, because it wasn’t for him, but for his mum. It was a change from the latest X Box or toy that was in that year.
‘I did, and I made sure I scoped the area for cameras, but I missed that one. You forget, I have to travel the whole world in one night, and those presents won’t deliver themselves.’
‘I’ve told you to get help, and I’m more than willing to take up the slack. What do you do?’
‘Perhaps it time I did . . . I’m thousands of years old, and I’m not getting any younger. So, yes, next year we get another sleigh and you can help.’
Mrs Clause nearly choked on her cookie. This was a change, and perhaps if he slowed down a little they could have their first holiday in years. Somewhere sunny would be nice.
