Tragedy struck again.
Maurine was about to go out with the dog, when she saw the poor little bird. A robin this time, next doors cat was going on a murder spree. Taking the tiny creature, she gently picked it up before he did. Putting her dog into a sit, she cradled it in her palm.
When she was little, her dad would get a little match box and bury it in the garden. Today, she would do the same. Going back inside the house, she let the dog in the hallway. Getting a tiny shoe box, the robin was placed inside.
A little prayer, she buried in by the rose bush. It was a quiet, shady spot, away from cats. Other people would think she was a little weird, but kindness cost nothing. Kindness, even to those creatures, who couldn’t speak, was more important.
‘Let’s go walkies,’ she said, knowing her dad was pleased.
