In the UK, today is Father’s Day.
My dad, Jack was an amazing man, who was a paratrooper in the second world war. He will always be my hero. A brave man, who would do anything for anyone. I remember our little talks, and he would always put my world to right again. He saved my life, on more than one occasion. He worked as a builder, and helped build the house I lived in for twenty-one years. He died when I was seventeen, and there are no words to describe how much I miss him.
My father-in-law, Leonard, was someone I grew close to. Similar to Dad in many ways, he was the kindest man I got to know. I remember him making so many cups of tea in one afternoon, I couldn’t drink them all. I couldn’t say no, when he asked me, and didn’t have the heart to say they were too strong for me. He was used to making them in the desert, where he served as a desert rat. Like a second Dad, I miss him too.
Both had an amazing sense of humour, always laughing, always kind, always there.
I think, if they knew each other, they would have been friends. (They both supported Conservative). Although I don’t think either of them would be happy with what is happening now.
When my son was born, it was only right he was called after them. I see my dad in my son’s smile. I definitely see my father-in-law, in his love for a cup of tea. My son, like them, is the kindest person I know. One day, I hope that he too will become a dad, because he will be amazing.
Dad is the top picture and my father-in-law is the second – Miss them both.

Beautiful remembrance of two extraordinary men, and a lovely view to your son. This is not only a tribute to your father and father-in-law, it is a testament to their kindness and love and how it can shape not only you, but generations. 💖

How lovely Diana. We lit a candle for our Dads today. Always with us one way or another and smiling at us from photographs on the piano.
