The mysterious figure emerged from the shadows of the dimly lit alley and started walking toward her, sending chills up and down her spine. She remembered her uncle’s words, and held the keys in her right hand. Nobody was going to hurt her, not with his valued advice.
As he moved closer, the stench of tobacco on his breath made her wretch. Three things to keep her safe, her Uncle Eddie’s words gave protection. Bulky arms reached out, but she twisted on her heels and was glad they were high. She dug the keys deep into his thigh, and brought her knee into his groin.
‘What the . . .’ he managed to say, before her stilettoes dug into his foot.
Then she ran, as quickly as her legs could carry her. She needed to find someone, anyone, who could go back to the park. Her uncle was long gone, but she could swear she heard him say the words, ”keys, knee, shoes.”
‘You alright love?’ a man said, as she reached the street lights.
‘Yes, but can you call the police, there is a man, who might need medical attention. He tried to grab me, I had no choice.’
‘Course not love, you sit here.’
A great saying for self-defense: keys, knees, shoes.

Yesss!! I haven’t ever heard anyone else say this. When I lived in the city and walked all over the place, people would tell me how dangerous it was to walk around at night. I told them I have keys. Aim for the eyes. Thigh works just as well.😂🔑
