Strength

A woman, who is okay about being alone, is a powerful woman.

She didn’t need anyone in her life right now, that was for sure. Her divorce; messy was putting it lightly. It wasn’t all Tom’s fault, but then it wasn’t hers either. Something had happened between her having Theresa, and growing apart. She told herself it didn’t matter if she were at home, looking after her child, while he was at work.

Losing part of herself, and it became clearer when her only child went to school. Before marriage, she worked as a manager in a computer firm. In charge of many, happy with her work.

Afterwards, being a housewife wasn’t for her.

Alone, like the tallest mountain peak, but there was a beauty in the ice. If you looked close enough, it had its own life. Breathing in, out, in a steady unison of power. She stared over the top, like a soldier ready for battle. Her harness pulled tight, she leant back.

‘Make sure you put your whole weight on you feet, and if at any time you want to stop, just let me know.’

No fear, no gain; she spoke to herself in riddles.

Leaning into her own strength, there was a power within her shoulders. She was stronger than she thought. Confidence, always a weakness. Even when her actions said otherwise. Masking, they called it. When you look to another, to see how you should react.

Alone, there was nothing to react with – she could be herself, a strong, independent. She was okay about being alone.

A powerful woman, on a mission.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
