Slippers

Cinderella’s glass slippers were once a sign of happier times. She remembered the day, as her sisters fought to wear it, she wasn’t sure. Yes, the prince was handsome, and his dancing skills were legendary, but there was something else. He seemed more interested in looking in the mirror.

He was the same now, and rarely took her out to the forest. In fact the only time they went out was with the king and queen to functions. Mostly dancing, to tell the poor in the community to be happy, and not worry about the crops failing this year.

Where was her Fairy Godmother? She needed to get her to change their way of thinking. Perhaps that is why she was there, to give perspective to their lives. Instead of using magic to make glass slippers, it could be used to produce seeds out dust, so they could look after themselves.

‘Why so sad? Do you not have everything you ever needed?’ her Fairy Godmother said.

‘No, I see so much poverty, there has been a drought this year, yet all the prince does is complain about is himself.’

‘Bibbity, Boppety, Boo, you have the power in your hands to change things. You don’t need the prince to act. Perhaps sell some of your ballgowns, buy some seeds. You have had the strength of life all along.’

‘Thank you, I won’t let you down,’ Cinderella said.

She would join forces with all the princesses, Belle had a library, perhaps they could find something in there.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
