This isn’t part of the six sentences, but the reason I wrote this post today. At school, someone came to deliver a talk about bullying. They spoke of a fifteen-year-old girl, who took her own life because she was being bullied. Her sister, was bullied afterward, with other students making fun of what her big sister did. Whether you are a mum, grandmother, sister, brother, friend, always let that person know they are loved.
I was lucky, when I was bullied, there wasn’t social media around, I could shut my bedroom door and take time to breathe; but now it is a dangerous thing. When you think someone is safe at home, they could be victims of bullying. Encourage loved ones to talk, because it is through talking we can make lives better.
If you are a victim, tell someone – a trusted friend, or adult, because you never have to do this alone.

An extract from her Facebook page, as another FRIEND posts something vile in her feed. Did you see her today, who did she think she was trying to be cool? As her little sister walked in, she closed down the feed, turned off the notifications, and pasted on a simple smile.
‘We had someone come in to school, about bullying, it was horrible about a girl who took her own life because she was so sad; I just wanted to let you know I hear things at school, and you are not alone.’
‘I’m not . . . ‘ it was impossible to lie any more, especially to her little sister. ‘It’s just I want to fit in, but I’m not into hair extensions or sport, nobody else likes to collect Pokémon on an app, or likes writing.’
A squeeze of her hand and she wrapped her arms around her big sister, who always took time to talk when she was feeling sad. ‘You are amazing, I wish I could write like you; I love you big sister.’
So sad that people will bully and pick on others.

Yes I was lucky also to have never had this growing up.

I know you write about bullying a lot. And it is never inappropriate to do so. It is not something that will stop. Even grownups can be bullied. If there is one thing (among many) that I have learned blogging it is you never know how your story/poem etc can touch someone else.
And we always hope for the better. 🙂

As someone who was bullied in school (made fun of mostly) I agree with your sentiment. The culture of bullying is not something that we should not promote, so this awareness is important. Talking is important, it may be hard but through support one can overcome the bullies.

I wish I could say we could stop bullying, but it will happen. I wasn’t ever physically hurt, but being called names is just as bad. I regret not saying anything, and we need to have a culture where children do not feel like it will get worse if they do.
