This brilliant book opens in the point of view of a would be serial killer and his first murder. His sister Fallon finds out, from a DNA present from her brother Ollie, that she is not related to him by blood. She has been lied to by her mum and was swapped at birth, when her own daughter died.
She is contacted by Lyndsey Cross, a forensic scientist with the police, who tells her about touch DNA. One of her four new siblings is a murderer. She has sent a sample to the company illegally because nobody believes the deaths are not linked. Even when murder is suspected, others have been convicted of the crime.
Through all this, she is going to give evidence on her kidnapping. Her captor putting on a face of being respectable, we are left unsure of whether he will get away with the murder of two other victims.
We get to read from Fallon’s point of view, as she investigates each of her brothers. Also, we hear the voice of her serial killer brother, who uses social media to find his victims. Luring them on a fictitious site, he posts second hand goods on auction. With each item sold, he makes another kill.
When he discovers Fallon, he treats it as a game, as she is the first opponent worthy of his intelligence.
I loved this book because it had me hooked from the first page. Fallon, her brothers, and a disjointed family drama. What would any of us do, if we found out our lives were a lie? What makes a murderer kill? Is blood thicker than water? Ollie, the only brother, and with different DNA, is great. I loved he brought her a Police Taser, a big German Shepard and a DNA test as a Christmas present.
A definite five out of five stars.
I would also highly recommend her book ”Little Bones”. A serial killer’s daughter, who goes under another name, until her secret is revealed. Do the sins of the father merge with the daughter? Her own children do not know of their own heritage.
This sounds good!
