Rebecca stared at her reflection in the mirror and wondered how a country girl like her was ever going to survive the big city? After all it was survival of the fittest. Growing up in little old Barton Seagrave, to get away with what she did, took skill.
Her first murder, not far out of being at junior school, and he deserved it. Bullying her for three years, calling her names; definitely the pen was mightier than his so called fists. It was addictive after that, a defender of those, who couldn’t look after themselves, weaker than herself.
Her notebook, with a story she wrote herself – of course the names were changed. If it was ever read, they would think it was her over active imagination. She loved how unfortunately thick her prey were. A friendship accepted on Tic Toc and they would easily fall into her elaborate meanderings.
A country girl, in the big city, where superheroes lived to save the day? Yes, this would be easier than spreading lies in a classroom.
She imagined a cape; all black, like Batman. Only working with the police wouldn’t be top of her list. Her university, one of the best known, would be the perfect place to . . . Was victims the wrong word? Yes, but they were all victims in the end. Her prey perhaps; if that were true, she was a hawk to their rat.
Her reflection smirked from the mirror; of course she would survive in the city, it was the rest of them who needed to worry.
Ooh, a dark story.

I think it is all the serial killer books I am reading. I finished The Brother by N V Peacock this week, and loved it. I am reading ”The Survivors”, which is also about a serial killer.
