Agree to Disagree

I don’t think the government has the right to remove posts that can misinform the public. It does have a responsibility to make sure certain posts are taken to account. For example, on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, so many people have an opinion. I think about Trump’s tweets, and how they instigated violence. There are many posts, which are unkind, or berate a person they don’t know because the person posting disagrees with a point of view.

Free speech is important, but if you cannot say something to a person’s face, then don’t say it at all. We don’t have the same opinions, that is true. On the same side of the coin, we don’t have the right to say we have all the answers. Facebook is terrible for that. I have seen many posts where someone randomly attacks the other user. It is why I only check my friends and family posts. I rarely go on Twitter, and Instagram. On the other side, we need to respect other people’s opinions, even if they are different to our own.

Truth is subject to many things. We all have our own version of it. One person may not speak for all of us. For example I am not political, and rarely care for any politician. There are others, who have a strong opinion on either party. In the UK, we only have two (and a half). Liberal are getting more people vote, but only because they are so dissatisfied with the other two.

I respect the right for free speech, and sometimes do not agree with their sentiment. I would say, to those whose views I do not share, let’s agree, to disagree and leave it at that. I do it all the time with my hubby, as it makes life easier.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. I’m hesitant about giving government the right to take down misinformation, given the potential to abuse the “misinformation” label, but I do think government should respond and counteract bad inaccurate content with good factual content so people stay informed. All that said, Facebook is the worst forum for discussing politics!
