Mental health is spoken about more – which is a good thing. It used to be, that there was shame associated with having depression. Now, thankfully, it is much better. Although it is still easier to talk about a broken leg (something physical), than it is to talk about depression.
It isn’t any less real, especially for those who suffer in silence.
Which is why talking is so important. We all ask our loved ones, are you okay. Not really wanting to listen to the answer. Fine can mean so many things. When a person says fine, it is the opposite of that.
I talk with my family as often as I can, but I agree, it can be difficult to talk to those closest to you. They will understand, but there is always someone in a trusted circle you can speak to. Depression is a lonely disease, but talking takes away that power. A problem shared, is a problem halved, my parents said to me and it is true.
Listening is always a good idea.

I could always talk to my Dad when something was on my mind. No subject was off limits. I am lucky in that I can also talk to Hubby. We both know when something is on the other’s mind, Equally we both know that when they are ready to talk, we will be there to listen.

I was like that with my dad. I could say anything. My daughter is the one I talk to now, and she knows she can talk to me. The same with my son.
