As you have gotten older, how has your perspective on holidays changed? Are there holidays that are less important than before? Are there any that have taken on new significance? Are personal holidays, such as birthdays and anniversaries, more or less important than they used to be, and how do they rank compared to national and religious holidays?
I am still working, at a school, so I look forward to the holidays. We have a eight week on, and two weeks off at my school, but by week eight all the adults and children are tired. Only three days to go and the holidays start. Can’t wait.
My husband, on the other hand, has retired, so holidays won’t have the same meaning to him. Although, it will mean I can take over looking after our granddaughter. Teenagers and toddlers, probably not much difference.
I love celebrating birthdays – you are never too old for that. Yes, I may have everything I need, in regards to possessions, but I enjoy having my children and grandchildren with me to celebrate it. I am the same with other people’s birthdays. My granddaughter turns four this year, and we brought her a fish tank, and will buy the fish on her birthday. My grandson is 16, and not sure what to buy him – my daughter says a JD voucher, so he can choose his own clothes.
Christmas we always go over the top. Every year we say that my granddaughter has too much, and we won’t buy as many this year. Every Christmas day, the room is full of her presents. I love opening the presents, especially our home make stockings (made by my sister-in-law). Even the cats and dogs have their own stockings.
It is their Christmas too.
Christmas, although it is a religious holiday, I don’t celebrate it that way. That is not to say I don’t consider myself a Christian, just that I celebrate that in my own way. National holidays – bring them on. Who doesn’t want an extra day off.
Yeah! I love holidays too! I love christmas!

Even as an adult I love opening the presents, especially the quirky ones. Most of mine are Harry Potter themed. Socks, jumpers, a goblet, books etc.
