To embark on her journey, Alice took her little suitcase, teddy, a few jam sandwiches, a packet of biscuits, and two pounds for the train. She went to Lego land a few weeks ago, and had such a good time, she wanted to go again.

Only Daddy said they would have to go in a few months time.

She pulled open the back door, and stepped outside. She was glad of her big, thick coat. It was getting cold. Mummy said there might be snow later. The gate opened, she looked in the kitchen to see if she were being followed.

By the time she got to the end of her street, it was raining. She dived into the bus stop.

‘Alice, what do you think you’re doing?’ Mummy asked.

‘I’m going to Legoland,’ Alice said.

‘It is raining, and all the rides will be shut. How about we go indoors instead. I was thinking we could bake some of those cookies you like. Perhaps we could watch a film afterwards.’

‘I really wanted to go to Legoland.’

‘I know, but sweetheart, you can’t be going anywhere on your own. There are strangers out there, and you wouldn’t be safe. Promise me, next time, you will talk to me first. We could think about a compromise.’

‘Compro . . .?’

‘You want to go Legoland, so we could have made something out of your Lego instead. You like their candyfloss. We could buy some from the shop. That way you are safe, and we won’t worry.’

‘Okay, I will make a compromise, but I still want to bake cookies. Can we watch the Lego Movie?’

Walking home with her mummy, she was kind of glad she wasn’t going. It was pouring with rain. She preferred staying home anyway, especially if there were warm cookies and hot chocolate.
