At first, Christine smiled at her ineptness. After a few minutes of uncontrolled squirming, she comprehended it was far more serious. How on earth was she going to get out?

On top of that, it was two o’clock in the morning and the only people around at this time of morning were drunk, or teenagers willing to push her down an extremely steep hill.

Her mate, Alison wasn’t any help either. She was too busy crying with laughter to do anything substantial. It was immaterial she brought that last tequila shot. It was still her fault. When they staggered past the lonely trolley, it was her suggestion to steal it to save money on the train fair.

Due at work in seven hours; she was sure her boss wouldn’t take the, I got stuck in a shopping trolley, excuse. Especially since she was going to court this morning to defend a murder suspect.

Her attention moved towards her bare feet – she was sure there were stilettos on there before.

The trolley rattled, as a pair of pink nails came into view.

‘Christine! You’re stuck,’ Alison said, her make-up streaked with laughter lines.

‘No, I’m just sleeping here for the night! Just get me out of here will you.’

‘I might have to call the fire brigade to get you out of there.’

‘Don’t you dare! Turn the trolley on its side, I can push myself out.’

A smirk spread across Alison’s face before her mobile was held in trembling hands. Like any best friend would, she took a photo. ‘Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Now let’s get you out before the police arrive to arrest us.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
