Autumn is my favourite season of the year. There are so many ooh moments. Colourful leaves mingling with each other, sharing their space without prejudice or fear. Creating a pallet of colour so beautiful, pictures don’t do it justice.
In a few short weeks the leaves will all be gone, and bare branches will replace the once full trees. They are only sleeping through the frozen mornings and wintery nights. Dormant for just a few months. Their roots only taking in food for their own survival.
Isn’t nature amazing.
It lifts the mood, when all around us is going crazy. You turn on the news and there is nothing but people fighting. Innocents losing their lives because someone else in power wants land. Animals fear us for good reason. You don’t see a lion going across their habitat and forcing another to leave.
Yet we do it all the time.
At least with nature, what you see is what you get. With each season they adapt. In Spring they will grow stronger. New buds sprouting on tree branches, ready to relive the year. Daffodils, their yellow petals proud, are a pleasant surprise to a cold winter.
Summer, and they are abundant with life.
This year, it was November before the leaves started to lose their colour. There were places in this world, where the temperatures were so high, there were fires, floods, and famine. We understand what could be causing this – do nothing to stop it. We have been given a huge responsibility in caring for the earth, and it is time we listened to nature for a change.
Sorry this turned into a bit of a rant, but I want my children and grandchildren to look in wonder at the world around us. My granddaughter is four today, and I don’t want her view to be soured by our lack of empathy and constant urge for power.
A very happy birthday to your granddaughter Diana. I share both your thoughts on nature and the senseless wars.

Thank you. I just wish we could learn something off nature.
