Duplicity

Duplicity, the way politicians say one thing and mean another. It is one reason I have lost faith in our system. Those in power don’t listen to those without. When there is an election, they all promise to make it better. Once in they do nothing but go back on their word.

We fall for it every time.

My dad was a Conservative, my father-in-law was the same. They wouldn’t hear a word against their chosen party. I think they would feel a little differently now. The trouble is Labour isn’t any better.

For example, our education minister has never worked in a school, yet he thinks up all these plans to make it better. He has never been in a state school, or seen how the other half struggle to give pens to their children. They still teach Shakespeare in school, yet there are so many other books they could relate to. Depending on where you live, the educational system follows different rules.

We have poverty, and people rely on food banks to feed their children. Not enough is being done to help those in need. It doesn’t help we throw away too much food because it is out of date, or overproduced for supermarkets. I’m not saying any party is better than the other, just that they all need to listen to the voter. A lot of what happens is a first world problem. Other countries, where children still work just to survive, and it is like freedom doesn’t exist.

We are lucky. Our children get an education, and their rights are important to us. Elsewhere, big companies with large profits use adults and children in other countries. They get paid 20 pence, and they sell the product for eighty pounds. Solving our first world problems is possible and we need to understand others might not have the same chances. All children have a right to education, so they can create a better world.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
