‘What have you in store for me today?’
The first step to recovery is self belief – that was her therapist’s mantra. What did she know? Three failed marriages and a son addicted to drugs. She often observed a chain smoker with bitten nails pacing outside between sessions.
‘You alright Mummy?’ Thomas asked.
‘Yea, just thinking about some stuff, that’s all.’
‘I thinks about those too. Like; who lives in the clouds? Tommy says it is all the elves.’
A small giggle escaped her lips as her arms drifted to her side. At four years old, he spoke more sense than most of the people she worked with. With the ability to make dust shine, it was the only time Cheryl had a glass half full.
‘No, they’re in Lapland,’ she replied, kneeling down to his level. His bright blue eyes were powerful enough to push down her negative thoughts.
‘That’s what I told him, besides everyone knows that fairy’s fly in there. Santa’s staff are too heavy, and cannot sit there without falling through.’
‘They wouldn’t,’ she tapped his nose with hers. ‘I tell you what, shall we visit the park? I’ve got some stale bread to feed the ducks and we can have some cake at the cafe.’
It was going to be a beautiful morning, the universe had spoken.
Never underestimate where or when help might appear.
